Week 3 – Part 1: Why the Game – Brainstorming
30 Aug 2025
Once our prototypes gave shape to the jet.
The next big question was:
How could we actually make it “fly”?
After all, the real JF-17 Thunder is all about movement in the skies, and we wanted our kit to capture a piece of that experience.
We brainstormed and tested different ideas, exploring how the jets could take flight. Two concepts stood out: a slingshot game and a dart game.
Slingshots were fun in theory, but in reality, they weren’t beginner-friendly. They required too much effort to get right, and the results were inconsistent. That’s when we started thinking:
What if the jet became a dart instead?
That idea opened up a new direction. We began experimenting with ways the jet could be launched toward a surface designed to catch it. After testing different options, we landed on thin metal sheets, which worked perfectly with the various kinds of magnets we explored. The system proved safe, simple, and satisfying.
A dart game also made more sense. Unlike slingshots, darts are a timeless activity—most people already know how they work, making them easier to adapt. By replacing sharp points with magnets, we were able to shape a kid-friendly version that still carried the thrill of aiming and landing on a target.
These brainstorming sessions became a turning point, showing us how the Thunder could evolve from just a model jet into an interactive game.
